Adjust your household spending mix to compare its modeled inflation with a standard family spending basket and headline CPI-U. Complete-year history plus the latest complete monthly BLS observation. Not an official BLS index.
Start with the DataEnvision standard family, then adjust total spending and the categories that differ for your household.
Your nine household categories are mapped to selected BLS CPI-U price measures used in the calculation.
All three lines are rebased to 100 at the selected start period. Yearly shows the long-run history; Monthly shows up to the latest 5 years.

| Rank | Household category | Your weight | Contribution to your CPI gap |
|---|
Categories are ranked by the absolute size of their contribution to the difference between your modeled inflation and headline CPI. Positive values pushed your result above CPI; negative values pulled it below CPI. This is an accounting decomposition, not proof that any one expense caused the difference.
The spending weights come from the exploratory 2024 standard family basket ($ annually). Each household category follows a selected BLS CPI-U price proxy. Yearly mode uses annual averages; Monthly mode uses published monthly observations. This fixed-basket simulator changes only spending allocations; it does not model changing quantities, income, household size, mortgage payments, down payments, or home-purchase affordability. The pilot shelter weight and childcare, insurance, and mixed-category price proxies are not independently validated. A higher or lower result should not be interpreted as a comprehensive measure of family affordability.
